Baking Times, Batter Amounts & Number of Servings
One cake mix yields 4 to 5 1/2 cups of batter. Pans should only be filled 1/2 to 2/3 full. 3" deep pans should only be filled 1/2 full. Always use the recommended batter amounts and the specific baking instructions provided with your baking pan.
Note: For Pans 12" and larger, use a heating core, or a flower nail placed upside down in the center of the pan when baking.
The following pan guides show baking information and serving amounts for both 2" and 3" high pans. The information in the charts for 2" pans are based on a 2-layer (4-inch depth) cake. The information for 3" pans are based on a 1-layer cake which has been torted (cut in half) and filled to reach a 3" depth.
The serving amounts listed are based on party-sized portions of approximately 1-1/2 x 2 inches or wedding-sized portions which are cut smaller, about 1 x 2 inches. The number of servings given are only an estimate, you may have more or less servings depending on the size of the piece of cake served.
