Buttery Spritz Cookies

Yield

7 dozen cookies

Ingredients

1 cup confectioners’ (powdered) sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, room temperature
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 400°F.

In a large mixing bowl, combine powdered sugar, butter, egg, and extracts. Mix on medium speed until well blended. Gradually add flour and salt. Mix on low speed until blended. Fit a cookie press with the desired template and fill with dough. Press out cookies 1" apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Decorate cookies with sprinkles and colored sugar crystals, if desired.

Bake 6 to 8 minutes or until set or bottom edges are very lightly browned. Cool 2 minutes on cooling grid. Remove cookies from cookie sheet and continue to cool on grid.
