McGuffey School
The McGuffey School was constructed in Greenfield Village, as a memorial, in 1934 of logs from
a barn located on the Pennsylvania farm in Washington County where William Holmes McGuffey, an
educator and author of the McGuffey Eclectic Readers, was born in 1800.
The McGuffey Eclectic Readers, a series of textbooks, were one of the most widely used school
books during the mid-1800s and a favorite of Henry Ford.
